BELL Announces Summer 2011 Robert B. Peterkin Educational Leadership Award Winner

NEW YORK, NY - Jan. 13, 2012 - Strong programs have strong leaders. That's why we created The Peterkin Award, named after Dr. Robert Peterkin, long-time BELL board member, friend, and former dean of the Harvard Graduate School of Education. We honor the best of the best program leaders during each BELL Summer and BELL After School cycle. The winner of this award is selected based on scholar performance, staff recommendations, and program quality BELL metrics such as retention, attendance, and feedback from parent and teacher surveys.

The Board of Directors and BELL's Executive Management Team are proud to announce Janine Royal as our 2011 BELL Summer Peterkin Award Winner. In her career at BELL, Janine has managed Summer programs in New York, Springfield (MA), and Detroit. She has consistently delivered excellent results and demonstrated an ongoing commitment to BELL and her scholars.
Here's an example of what others shared about Janine's commitment to the success of BELL scholars and operational excellence:
  • "Janine is a great role model. Janine is a good example of what a Program Manager should be. She runs a strong academic program and emphasizes the importance of planning for each scholar's success in the program."
  • "She knows her school well and her scholars. She builds strong relationships and partnerships."
Janine's name will join the names of prior winners - Daniel Guillen, Jr., Sherrinne Reece, Bethy Verano, Collette Tallow, and Cynthia Francis - on the Robert B. Peterkin Educational Leadership Award plaques in each BELL office.
Janine, we are truly fortunate to have you as a member of our leadership team and we are deeply appreciative of the tremendous service you provide BELL and our scholars, everyday! Congratulations and thanks from all of us at BELL for modeling the leadership that is so important to the success of our programs and the thousands of scholars we serve.
Warm regards,
Tiffany Gueye, Ph.D.
Chief Executive Officer, BELL
