BELL Appoints Executive Director of California

OAKLAND - December 18, 2012 - BELL (Building Educated Leaders for Life), a nonprofit provider of expanded learning opportunities, announced today that Naomi Eason has been appointed Executive Director of California. Ms. Eason was hired for her extensive experience, which includes over 20 years in education and working to make a difference in the lives of underserved students.

"We are excited to welcome Naomi to the BELL Team," says Tiffany Cooper Gueye, Ph.D., CEO of BELL. "She will play an integral role in building sustainable partnerships that expand learning time for children in California."

Ms. Eason will be responsible for the success of BELL's existing after school and summer learning programs, and for cultivating opportunities for growth in new schools and communities in California. She joins BELL thanks to a grant from the Tipping Point Community in San Francisco, which has made it possible for BELL to build a local leadership team in the Bay Area and expand its partnerships with area schools and school districts.

"BELL's programming exemplifies rigorous, standards-based programming with differentiated flexibility in order to meet the needs of individual students," said Ms. Eason. "I am proud to be associated with an organization focused on high expectations, high-quality expanded learning opportunities, and a commitment to unlocking the potential of K-8 scholars in California."

Previously, Ms. Eason served as the Assistant Superintendent of the Alameda County Office of Education, where she oversaw the education support services offered to educators employed in eighteen school districts. Her prior experience includes working as a principal and an elementary school teacher. Ms. Eason received her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California.
