Hartford Courant: YMCA Celebrates Champions Event Honors Three Area Leaders

November 13, 2014 - HARTFORD, CT - The YMCA of Greater Hartford honored three area leaders at its signature fundraising event, YMCA Celebrates Champions, presented by Cigna on October 23. The YMCA Celebrates Champions awards are presented to area leaders who are outstanding role models and who exemplify the YMCA's areas of focus: Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility. The YMCA Celebrates Champions Award was established in 2010 to recognize a person or group that has shown outstanding vision or service to the local community for the betterment of all.
This year's honorees are:
For Youth Development: Tiffany Cooper Gueye, Ph.D., Chief Executive Director of Bell (Building Educated Leaders for Life); for her leadership of BELL and its impact on the academic enrichment and success of children in Hartford and throughout the country.
For Healthy Living: Beth Shluger, Executive Director of the Hartford Marathon Foundation, for her leadership of the ING Hartford Marathon and its positive impact on the health and prosperity of the region and country.
For Social Responsibility: Curtis D. Robinson, Founder, Curtis D. Robinson Center for Health Equity, for his vision and leadership of the Men's Health Institute and its impact on prostate health (and health disparities generally) in greater Hartford and throughout the country.
